The May 19th meeting of DPALC will feature Chris Coxon with Educate Texas. He will speak on “Emerging Trends in Texas Education.”
Additionally, the 2014 Gwen Pharo Scholarship winner will be introduced at our May meeting. Her name is Carmen Gills, and she attends Rosie McCollins Sorrells School of Education and Social Service, at division of Townview Center in DISD.
Background on Chris Coxon
Chris Coxon currently serves as the Chief Program Officer for Educate Texas. Mr. Coxon previously served as the Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning for the Boston Public Schools. During his tenure, the Broad Prize for urban Education recognized the district as a finalist for four consecutive years and then as the winner in 2006. Mr. Coxon has also served as a principal, district administrator, and teacher in Puerto Rico for the Department of Defense Education Activity and in Dallas where he began his teaching career. Having served on various educational boards at the state and national level, Chris Coxon was selected into the Urban Superintendents Program at Harvard in 2000.
Mr. Coxon holds a master’s degree in administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University, where he is also a 2011 doctoral candidate. A resident of Dallas, Chris Coxon is married and father of three boys.
